A lazy day away

Sander scares the flies away from the days catch

I only got a few hours of sleep. For some reason, I never felt sleepy during the night and also couldn't find that comfy spot on the bed where you just pass out. So instead of fighting the urge to stay awake, I just woke up and wrote in my journal til I got tired. I eventually went back to bed and only slept a couple hours.
Woke up and got ready in case Patrick wanted to go diving; he said he would go dive if the sun was out. It was overcast, and by 9 am there was a slight drizzle. I was on the fence about diving since it was a little cold out and could afford to miss another day. It rained more and decided to just hang out around the island.

For most of the morning I just hung out at Genesis. Giso (owner of Genesis) was hanging around and got to talk with him a little about possibly enrolling in the instructor program to become a dive instructor. There is a really good course director (instructor of instructor) that both Giso and my friend Zac got certified by but he’s in the North. The instructor course seems like it will be quite intensive which would require me to relocate to another island, pay lots of money, and spend seven days of training and two days of exams. I don’t really want to be an instructor but it makes it a lot easier to get a dive job. Sander, an instructor at Genesis, said he was the same way and that’s why he became an instructor.

I hung out with Sander throughout the night. He reminds me of my friend Simon, from England, that I know back in the US, but older. Sander is well traveled, and he’s visited all the countries he’s interested in except for 6 (he’s visited more than 80 countries). How does he do it? He works investment banking and just put his money into investments, rents out his house, and goes to places where his money goes farther. Funny, I was thinking about exactly this before I left on my trip.

We started the night at Oops but ended the night flirting with the bartenders at Coco Vida. Pretty fun night.
